Hydrogen Flame Detection System

We recently completed the installation of Hydrogen Flame Detection system at Ireland’s first renewable hydrogen production facility at Long Mountain Wind Farm in Co Antrim. The facility will produce renewable hydrogen to be used as a fuel in transportation, starting with a fleet of busses operated by Translink in the North of Ireland. Hydrogen is a zero emission fuel that, when produced using renewable power, can meet transport needs with minimal environment impact.

Partnering with MSA, we installed the FL500-H2 Ultraviolet / Infrared flame detection system, designed specifically to detect hydrogen (H2) fires. The FL500-H2 optical flame detector monitors for radiation emitted by a hydrogen flame in both the ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) spectral ranges. This UV/IR combination provides a fast response time and increased false alarm immunity against sources of radiation for reliable protection.

The FL500-H2 detectors are cabled back to the MSA GasGard XL Controller used to monitor up to eight remote gas sensors and is linked to the fire alarm system that can instantly shut down the production plant if a flame is detected.
